Marguerite Avans was born and raised in Washington, D.C. to Jesse and Cassandra Avans. She graduated from Eastern High School in 1987 and received an Bachelor of Science Degree in Respiratory Therapy at the University of the District of Columbia. 

In 1994, Sister Marguerite joined Jericho Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Bishop James Peebles Sr. and Pastor Betty Peebles and gave her life to the Lord. She was baptized in Jesus Name and later filled with the Holy Spirit. 

Sister Marguerite attended Jericho Christian College where she studied Biblical Chronology and Growing up Spiritually. While attending the college, she met Minister Glen Jenkins (Her Blessing) and, on November 16, 1996, they began their covenant relationship of marriage. From this union, God has blessed them with four wonderful children: Porsche', Cameron, Glen, II and Doris; one son-in-law, Larrenta; three beautiful granddaughters: India, Akira, SaNiyah and a handsome grandson, Diasian.

In 1996, Sister Marguerite joined New Light Church of Christ located in Dumfries, Virginia. She was led by the Lord to work in various ministries. She served on the Usher Board, the Adult Choir, Kitchen Committee, Teen Ministry as well as President of Women's Ministry. 

In 2001, Sister Marguerite and family joined Heart To Heart Ministry under the leadership of Bishop James Gordon. There she served as the Church Administrator and Youth Sunday School Teacher. 

On October 10, 2004, God called Pastor Glen & First Lady Marguerite to start a ministry in the Manassas area. Along with many loving family members and friends, God blessed them with a place of worship called the City of Refuge. 

First Lady Marguerite Jenkins currently is the Executive Director of CORE Community Development Group ,a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization, which has been established to be a liason between men and women assisting/providing them opportunities for a successful and productive life.

First lady desire is to help counsel people within the community both spiritually and naturally. Along with her husband, God is using them to make a difference in the Manassas, Virginia area.
